Grey’s Anatomy – Shonda Rhimes Speaks About Sandra Oh’s Returning In Season 14

Grey’s Anatomy fans, Dr. Cristina Yang fans, Shonda Rhimes has some bad news for you.  There are no plans to bring former star Sandra Oh back to Grey’s Anatomy. And now you can stop asking and hoping. This is so sad…

But that’s not to say it will never happen, says executive producer Krista Vernoff. But it’s not going to happen anytime soon. At least not in this season 14.

“I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING FOR A VISIT FROM SANDRA OH,” VERNOFF TOLD TVLINE.

“[THE 300TH EPISODE] WOULD BE A FINE OCCASION FOR A VISIT, BUT IT’S NOT HAPPENING. SO I DON’T WANT PEOPLE IMAGINING OR HOPING IT WILL AND THEN BEING DISAPPOINTED.

“SANDRA MAY ONE DAY COME BACK FOR THE END [OF THE SERIES] OR SOMETHING, BUT SHE’S NOT COMING BACK THIS SEASON.”

Sandra Oh last appeared on Grey’s Anatomy more than three years ago, in 2014.

And also while we’re on the topic of unlikely returns, Sara Ramirez (who plays Dr Callie Torres) won’t be back either.

“THERE’S NOBODY WHO’S A BIGGER FAN OF HERS THAN I AM,” VERNOFF SAID. “SHE HAS MOVED ON FROM THE SHOW.

“IF SHE WOULD COME BACK, I WOULD BE THRILLED TO HAVE HER. BUT SHE’S GOT A VERY BUSY LIFE IN NEW YORK.”

And we will really miss them, of course. But season 14 got off to a very fine start, with a well-received two-part premiere last week.

Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC in the US and on Sky Living and NOW TV in the UK.
